NY/NJ Trip Day 4
We were up early on Sunday. We decided not to wait around for Jeff that day and Matt and I ventured out on our own. We went to Bayonne (Bay-own)Pier to see the Bayonne Harbor Memorial, or better known as the Tear Drop Memorial. It is all the way out on this old marine pier. There wasnt' much life out there and we kept wondering if we were going in the right direction. It was a good thing we spent some time on the laptop and mapped out where we were going and had it all planned and in the GPS before we left otherwise I think we would have been up a creek. We finally made it there and it was so peaceful. You stand out there in awe of how pretty it was. Looking at all of the stones around the entire monument just made me cry. No, I didn't look at all of them, but it was pretty tear jerking. Then what really got me was seeing those who had died in the twin tower attacks who lived in Bayonne themselves. Looking at all of the names of the ppl who died at the bottom of the memorial was very touching also. It is amazing how many ppl died. The Tear Drop Memorial was given to us by the Russian leader in leiu of the attacks and to join forces to harbor off terrorist attacks. What a very touching thing for Russia to do for the US in a time of need. The memorial was put up and dedicated in 2006, 5 years after the attack. A lot of thought was put into this memorial.
