January 27th Matt got to do the most awesome thing in the whole wide world!!! And the girls and I got to experience it too! From the depths of our driveway freezing out patooties off! LOL!
Matt got to fly in a helicopter!!! He went for what they call a "discovery ride". They normally go out west, but this time Matt convinced the pilot to take him out east. Here we, the girls and I, are out in the driveway freezing our butts off looking towards the west waiting to see the helicopter head our way. Matt said to expect them about a quarter after 4. So we're out there waiting. The girls are riding their scooters in the freezing cold (hmmm, I don't think I have said that word enough, so be expecting it some more!) trying to keep warm. When I look to the west and see a helicopter coming our way. I was getting so excited! Then all of a sudden it took off north and never came out our way. I was beginning to think I was jipped! Then I get a text from Matt that they were just leaving the air port and would be there shortly. So I go inside try to warm up a bit, only for a min or two, afraid I would miss him. Here I am still looking west when all of a sudden, Brytni says, "look mom! There they are!" And points to the south. Here I see this little black dot getting bigger. And I mean this helicopter was seriously heading straight for our house. Perfect b-line to us. So I am snapping shots left and right just trying to get some good pics. The helicopter buzzes past us and then takes a turn for the mountain. I thought they were turning around to head back. Next thing I know I see them circle around and start going straight down our road. So I ran out the street to take some more pics. I got a few of him passing the house again and then the tail end of him heading west to go south back to the Ogden air port. For hours afterwards all Ashlyn could say was "Daddy in his helicopter. I saw daddy in his helicopter"! It was to cute!
Matt called me on his way home and said that he couldn't find the house until they circled around and found the road and came back down. He said that he saw me, but couldn't look much further than that because the pilot let Matt have full control of the helicopter. The instructor said that he doesn't so that with just anybody. He felt Matt could handle it and let him know that Matt had full control. He practically flew all the way back to the air port himself! SAWEET! He was so stoked when he got home. He intends to become a helicopter pilot and we're trying to get student aid and grants and things like that right now so he can do it all. I showed Matt the path that he took and he didn't realize that he had flown right over head the first time. He loved the fact that for almost a week after he came home Ash would ask him if he had been flying in his helicopter.
